SIMMOD™ - Airport and Airspace Simulation Model
Overview
The Airport and Airspace Simulation Model (SIMMOD™), which has been validated by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), is an industry standard analysis tool used by airport planners and operators, airlines, airspace designers, and air traffic control authorities for conducting high-fidelity simulations of current and proposed airport and airspace operations. ATAC has played a leading role in SIMMOD™ development, application, and support since its inception, including serving as a primary developer, participating in the model validation process, serving as the systems integrator, distributing the model, and providing technical support to users around the world.
Applications
SIMMOD™ is designed to "play out" airport and airspace operations and calculate the real-world consequences of potential operating conditions. It has the capability and flexibility to address a wide range of "what if" questions related to airport and airspace capacity, delay, and efficiency, including questions associated with:
- Existing or proposed airport facilities (e.g., gates, taxiways, runways, pads)
- Airport operating alternatives (e.g., taxi patterns, runway use, departure queuing)
- Existing or proposed airspace structures (e.g., routes, procedures, sectors)
- Air traffic management/control technologies, procedures, and policies
- Aircraft separation standards parameters (e.g., weather, aircraft type, flight state)
- Airline operations (e.g., flight schedule, banking, gate use and service times)
- Current and future traffic demand (e.g., volume, aircraft mix, new aircraft types)
Features
- Computes and records detailed information on the activities and events associated with the operation of each aircraft on the airport and within the airspace
- Provides outputs that can be used to evaluate alternatives, including aircraft travel time, delay and operating costs, and system capacity, throughput and traffic loading
- Extensive built-in ground modeling features, such as optimal taxipath generation, departure queue sequencing, runway exit selection and gate use
- Detects potential separation violations and simulates air traffic control actions required to solve potential conflicts
Benefits
SIMMOD™ provides numerous benefits to the user, including:
- The most current, best supported SIMMOD™ engine is available for free download
- PC-based to provide a low cost computing platform
- Expert, efficient support to answer your most complex questions quickly
- World-wide user base providing constant feedback and bug identification
