Airspace Operations Design and Analysis
ATAC is an industry leader in providing expert consulting services in airspace design and analysis. For over 20 years, ATAC has been employing its in-depth knowledge of air traffic operations and unique set of planning tools to service the needs of the FAA, airport authorities, and private industry for airspace design and air traffic operations analysis.
ATAC's experience includes the completion of over thirty-five large-scale airfield and airspace studies and numerous smaller studies, which have encompassed all en route airspace, all major terminal airspace environments, and most major airports in the U.S. Issues addressed in past ATAC studies include:
- En route and terminal airspace design
- Traffic flow and rerouting options
- Airspace saturation and choke point relief
- New airways and offshore routings
- Military airspace impacts
- Curved instrument approaches
- Runway use and taxiing patterns
- Airspace redesign for new/expanded airports
- Mitigation of aircraft noise impacts
- Capacity and delay impacts of noise abatement
- Airfield improvements
ATAC offers access to a unique set of airspace design and analysis tools that are critical to successfully isolating airspace problems, identifying potential solutions, and evaluating alternatives. These tools have been developed by ATAC over many years to meet the needs of designers and analysts for system visualization, graphical design, operations simulation, and impact evaluation. Some of the key tools used by ATAC to meet the needs of clients for airspace design and operations analysis are:
- Simmod PRO! - an advanced derivative of SIMMOD that provides advanced capabilities to conduct airport and airspace simulation analysis that cannot be addressed by other models.
- GRADE - Graphical Airspace Design Environment, an ATAC-developed tool that provides a 4-D graphical visualization and analysis capability for displaying, animating, and analyzing aviation-related data for current or proposed, actual or simulated, operations.
- BWRS - the Birdwatch Reporting System is an integral part of the FAA's Performance Data Analysis and Reporting System (PDARS) and seamlessly integrates GRADE, MS Excel and MS PowerPoint to perform daily and trend reporting of airspace operations with extensive drill down capability to support desired exploratory analysis.
