The Position

ATAC has an opening for an Aviation Analyst Summer Intern. This is a paid internship for the duration of the summer of 2019 and will be located at our headquarters in Santa Clara, California. The successful candidate will participate in the FAA’s NextGen initiative through the environmental analysis of airspace redesigns utilizing AEDT (Aviation Environmental Design Tool), and other FAA environmental tools.
Responsibilities will include:

  • Airport and airspace noise and emissions analysis studies
  • Quantitative and qualitative analysis of air traffic performance data
  • Application of visualization software to understand air traffic operations
  • Aviation data verification and validation

A background check will be required for this position.


ATAC is looking for open-minded people who have an interest in developing knowledge in the aviation domain and motivation to be a part of FAA’s NextGen, which is a comprehensive overhaul of our National Airspace System to make air travel more convenient and dependable, while ensuring flights are as safe, secure, and hassle-free as possible.
Required attributes include: 

  • A BS degree in aerospace, mechanical, or systems engineering, operations research, applied mathematics, statistics, or physics
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Familiarity with scientific programming and/or scripting (including VBA, Java, Python, MATLAB, C#, JavaScript)
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills and interpersonal relations skills
  • Proficient at using office productivity software including Excel, PowerPoint, and Word
  • U.S. citizenship or permanent residency
Highly Desired attributes include: 
  • Currently attending or planning to attend a graduate school program
  • Knowledge of physical acoustics, aircraft emissions, and/or aircraft flight performance
  • Knowledge of airport operations and air traffic management

In addition, the ideal candidate is a team player, open to new ideas, technologies and development methodologies, thinks both logically and creatively, and approaches problems and problem solving with a positive and constructive attitude.
