The Position

ATAC has an opening for a Financial Analyst. This is a full-time position located at ATAC headquarters in Santa Clara, California. The Financial Analyst must have a strong understanding of accounting, FP&A, indirect rate management, financial and analytical acumen, cash flow, project cost and government regulations. The Financial Analyst must be organized, detail-oriented, accurate in their work products, and have the ability to communicate effectively.

 Responsibilities will include:

  • Assist in the preparation of monthly financial results from plan
  • Preparation and submission of monthly billings
  • Assist in financial analyses such as funding profiles, sales, cost variance and rate analysis
  • Support government audits
  • Tracking and monitoring project job cost from plan
  • Maintain and support Unanet Accounting System and improve tools and processes

The Position

ATAC has an opening for a Rotorcraft Safety Research Summer Intern.  This is a paid internship for the duration of the summer of 2025 and will be located on-site at the Federal Aviation Administration’s (FAA’s) William J. Hughes Technical Center (WJHTC) in Egg Harbor Township, New Jersey. The successful candidate will be a self-motivated member of ATAC’s WJHTC team and will support various research efforts including aviation safety research.

 Responsibilities will include:

  • Reviewing flight and simulator video data and marking it at pre-developed safety events.
  • Downloading and copying data from test activities.
  • Quantitative and qualitative data analysis including reviewing, classifying, and categorizing flight and simulation data.
  • Supporting the development of Virtual Reality, Augmented Reality, and other related graphics.
  • Supporting the development of websites and other project materials.
  • Supporting the development of heliports/vertiports, flight procedures, and test scenarios.
  • Supporting the set-up and use of helicopter and eVTOL flight simulators.
  • Supporting the development, implementation, and use of eye-tracking tools.
  • Supporting the development of models and analytical tools using big data and high-performance computing tools.

The Position

ATAC has an opening for a Research Engineer. This is a full-time position located on-site at the Federal Aviation Administration’s (FAA’s) William J. Hughes Technical Center (WJHTC) in Egg Harbor Township, New Jersey. The successful candidate will be a self-motivated member of ATAC’s WJHTC team and will support various research efforts. These efforts will focus on aviation safety including rotorcraft-specific issues, and will also include developing and evaluating methods for analyzing, processing, and filtering various forms of air traffic control data from existing FAA systems to support the development of analytical tools and prediction models.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Collaborating with other in-house FAA researchers and laboratory personnel, developers, programmers, and other contract support as well as research partners such as NASA, MITRE, and other universities.
  • Developing analytical tools to support/enhance FAA systems.
  • Developing models to predict and evaluate the performance of rotorcraft and fixed-wing aircraft, FAA systems, and programs related to air traffic optimization and safety.
  • Supporting data analyses including automating analysis processes and report generation.
  • Supporting testing and data collection efforts, and enhancing capabilities in these areas.
  • Documenting and reporting on work products.

Qualifications

ATAC is looking for a self-starter that can work independently and complete projects with minimum oversight. They must be adaptable and able to learn new tools and technologies as necessary to meet customer needs. Required attributes include: 

  • A PhD degree in Aerospace Engineering or a related field
  • Research background/experience
  • Experience with modeling rotorcraft dynamics
  • Experience in the development of rotorcraft safety metrics
  • Experience with aircraft flight data monitoring equipment and data
  • Experience with helicopter flight simulators, including methods to improve their fidelity
  • Experience with modeling aircraft noise and emissions
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills and interpersonal relations skills
  • Expertise with MATLAB, SQL, Python and/or C++

Desired attributes include:

  • Expertise with AEDT, JMP, and FLOPS
  • Knowledge of current air traffic management systems
  • Knowledge of aviation environmental issues and models
  • Pilot license

The Position

ATAC has an opening for an Aviation Research Intern. This is a paid internship.  While this intern program  cannot provide travel or living expenses to participants, we believe that participants would enjoy increased opportunities to interact with their ATAC colleagues if they were to work on-site at ATAC’s offices in Santa Clara, California.  The successful candidate will participate in the analysis of aviation related performance data from a variety of sources. The candidate will also participate in modeling of air traffic operations using a variety of aviation analytical tools. This position would be for Summer 2025 (e.g., May through August 2025), but can be flexible.

 Responsibilities will include:

  • Quantitative and qualitative analysis of air traffic data.
  • Development of machine learning, neural networks, or other Artificial Intelligence (AI)-enabled software algorithms to find significant patterns in aviation-related data.
  • Use of AI for speech-to-text, natural language processing, and/or generative AI techniques.
  • Application of visualization software to understand air traffic operations.
  • Formulation of air traffic planning and scheduling scenarios as numerical optimization problems, especially linear and integer programming.
  • Integration of advanced data mining techniques into ATAC research and commercial products.
  • Interaction with aviation subject matter experts to incorporate their knowledge into machine learning and aviation data analytics algorithms.
  • Development and deployment of aviation performance reports.
  • Aviation data verification and validation; and calibration and troubleshooting of data processing algorithms.
  • Presentation and briefing development.

Qualifications

  • Current enrollment in a B.S., M.S., or Ph.D. program in a STEM major, or an Associates (or aviation-related technical training) with emphasis on Data Science, Computer Programming, IT, and related.
  • Ability to quickly prototype and demonstrate software concepts in several languages, such as Python, Java, MATLAB, C#, or Javascript.
  • Strong analytical skills and experience working with large data sets.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills and interpersonal relations skills.
  • Good PC applications skills with office tools including Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.

Highly desired attributes include:

  • Major in aerospace, mechanical, electrical, civil, systems, or other applicable engineering disciplines, operations research, applied mathematics, statistics, physics, Data Science, Computer Programming, or IT.
  • U.S. citizenship or permanent residency.
  • Experience with machine learning and AI techniques such as deep neural networks, generative AI, etc.
  • Knowledge of machine learning and Artificial Intelligence-related software libraries.
  • Knowledge of airport operations and air traffic management, and development of algorithms to process aviation-related data sets.
  • Familiarity with building web-based dashboards using open-source libraries such as Python-plotly, Dash, Javascript-Angular, D3, etc.
