The Position

ATAC has an opening for a Senior Air Traffic Control Expert.  This is a full-time position. The successful candidate will participate on the technical and engineering support team in a variety of projects that ATAC is supporting with the FAA.  In addition, the candidate should be someone who can identify additional work opportunities for ATAC.  

 Responsibilities will include:

  • Assistance with Human-in-the-Loop (HITL) Simulations
  • Airspace and Procedure analysis, design, and evaluation
  • Safety/collision risk/separation studies
  • Refining near-term UAS operating concepts
  • Guidance on new procedures related to MARS (Multiple Airway Route Separation), Established on RNP (EoR), and Closely Spaced Parallel Operations (CSPO)
  • Interacting with senior FAA leadership, air traffic control personnel, and NATCA leadership

Qualifications

Required attributes include

  • Working knowledge of the regulations contained in FAA Order JO 7110.65
  • 15 years’ experience in FAA Air Traffic Control operations, policies and procedures in the terminal and/or enroute environments or the equivalent in military or international air traffic environment; must be no more than 5 years since most recent ATC work
  • Strong analytical skills

The Position

ATAC has an opening for an Associate Software Development Engineer/Analyst.  This is a full-time position located on-site at the Federal Aviation Administration’s (FAA’s) William J. Hughes Technical Center (WJHTC) in Egg Harbor Township, New Jersey. Telecommuting will NOT be authorized. The successful candidate will be a self-motivated member of ATAC’s WJHTC team and will support various research efforts including developing and evaluating methods for analyzing, processing, and filtering various forms of air traffic control data from existing FAA systems to support reduction of separation in the en-route and oceanic airspace environment and enhancement of commercial aviation safety.

 Responsibilities will include:

  • Collaborating with other in-house FAA researchers and laboratory personnel, developers, programmers, and other contract support as well as research partners such as NASA, MITRE, and other universities to advance separations standards analysis capabilities.
  • Collaboration with foreign Air Navigation Service Providers (ANSPs).
  • Developing new data processing tools, supporting data analyses including automating analysis processes and report generation.
  • Improving existing software.
  • Supporting user interface development and restructuring and processing historical data.
  • Supporting the development of functional requirements and software documentation.
  • Attending and presenting at technical conferences virtually and in person (with other ANSPs/RMAs).
  • Other responsibilities as assigned.

They must be adaptable and able to learn new coding languages, tools, and technologies as necessary to meet customer needs. They must have a technical background and be able to perform tasks such as reading engineering plots and understanding other technical information.

  • A BA/BS degree in Computer Science or a related field and 0 to 6 years of related job experience.
  • Strong software development skills.
  • Strong analytical skills.

The Position

ATAC has an opening for an Associate Rotorcraft Safety Research Engineer.  This is a full-time position and will be located on-site at the Federal Aviation Administration’s (FAA’s) William J.   • Supporting the development of Virtual Reality, Augmented Reality, and other related graphics.
  • Supporting the development of websites and other project materials.
  • Supporting the development of heliports, flight procedures, and test scenarios.
  • Supporting the set-up and use of helicopter and eVTOL flight simulators.
  • Supporting the development, implementation, and use of eye-tracking tools.
  • Developing models and analytical tools using big data and high-performance computing tools.

The Position

ATAC has an opening for a Senior Aviation Analyst. This is a full-time position supporting the FAA in the Seattle, WA area. The successful candidate should be located within commuting distance to the area, but applicants from other locations may be considered based upon qualifications. The ideal candidate will have a background in air traffic control/management, and a solid technical background. The successful candidate will participate in aviation data analyses in support of the Federal Aviation Administration.

 Responsibilities will include:

  • Quantitative and qualitative analysis of air traffic data.
  • Application of visualization software to understand air traffic operations.
  • Use of simulation software to assist clients with analysis of airport/airspace operations.
  • Development and deployment of aviation performance report.
  • Aviation data verification and validation.

ATAC has an opening for an Aviation Programmer Analyst. This is a full-time mid-level staff position and is located in the Washington, DC, or Santa Clara, CA, areas. The successful candidate will participate in the development of web-based applications supporting the analysis of aviation data at the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).

 Responsibilities will include:

  • Developing and maintaining websites to visualize aviation traffic, weather, and performance measures using JavaScript, R Shiny, Tableau, Leaflet, and other technologies.
  • Using JavaScript, Python, R and/or other tools to build applications that can store and retrieve input from multiple users in a database.
  • Using PL/SQL to build and schedule stored procedures that update database tables.
  • Supporting other analysts/developers in the deployment of dashboards into a production environment.

  • Using analytical tools to support/enhance FAA systems
  • Developing, refining, and implementing flight tests in operational and research settings involving a variety of commercial aircraft types and UAS
  • Supporting data analyses including automating analysis processes and report generation
  • Supporting testing and data collection efforts, and enhancing capabilities in these areas
