The Position

ATAC has an opening for a Senior Systems Engineer. This is a full-time position located in Washington DC, the Atlantic City New Jersey area, or Santa Clara California. Other East Coast locations may be considered for the right candidate. The successful candidate will support large scalable systems for the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) that collect and analyze massive volumes of data from a variety of sources to develop safety analyses, including the Aviation Safety Information Analysis and Sharing (ASIAS) system.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Serve as a technical/engineering expert for a new IT architecture platform, integrating advanced analytical tools (using artificial intelligence/machine learning technologies) into the next generation system; coordinate the design and collection/processing/analysis of multiple sources and varieties of data (digital, text and other) at scale.
  • Be responsible for the architectural design, development, and deployment of the technical infrastructure, working on advanced projects requiring state of the art technical knowledge.  The infrastructure includes cloud automation, hardware, software, network, data fusion, visualization and analytical tools, web portals, associated servers and security, and other components.
  • Lead the program’s transition from legacy system to the next generation system incorporating advanced analytic capabilities, update operating procedures based on business processes; establish application and data migration plan, develop and implement the transition plan to ensure a successful transition.
  • Advise and support the development and implementation of system requirements, based on stakeholder needs and program office direction.
  • Act as a technical project manager to coordinate migration and implementation efforts from a legacy system to a cloud environment in collaboration with multiple vendors.
  • Oversee development of interfaces to all sub-system in compliance with the system solution.
  • Be responsible for System and Subsystem Level Design requirements
  • Define System Validation Plans, execute System Validation Testing, and work with Test Engineers to ensure traceability satisfies the project’s objectives.

Qualifications

ATAC is looking for a self-starter that can work independently and complete projects with minimum oversight. They must be adaptable and able to learn new coding languages, tools, and technologies as necessary to meet customer needs.  

Required attributes include

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Computer, Electrical, Chemical, Mechanical or Aeronautical Engineering, Computer Science, or other relevant discipline and 10 to 20 years of related job experience.
  • Five-plus years of recent and quantifiable experience in major systems architecture efforts.
  • Demonstrated ability to design and implement major IT/big data systems; broad experience with developing big data systems to collect, process, and analyze multiple varieties of data at scale, and to understand component interactions and interfaces including understanding Application Programming Interfaces (API’s) design and implementation.
  • Expertise in data architecture and application of data governance.
  • Capabilities in translating Aviation safety use cases into technical solution architecture.
  • Experience with microservices based architecture.
  • Ability to formulate programmatic requirements into technical requirements.
  • Broad expertise and knowledge of big data technologies and cloud computing, networking, storage and security principles and operations; experience in visualizing multi-dimensional data and integrating various machine learning approaches.
  • A solid track record of data management including high-level knowledge of data mining, machine learning, natural language processing, and information retrieval with experience creating strategy and roadmaps to leverage/integrate advanced technology, artificial intelligence, and machine learning.
  • Demonstrated experience decomposing high-level requirements into actionable technical courses and developing associated engineering artifacts that support system functional requirements, technical specifications, and performance standards.
  • Demonstrated ability to manipulate datasets with modern languages such as Python (scikit-learn, pandas, tensorflow).
  • Experience with visualizing multi-dimensional data using business intelligence tools such as Tableau, ggplot2, matplotlib, seaborn, PowerBI, GIS, or D3.js, Amazon Quicksight.
  • Experience balancing distribution of analysis outputs with protection of contributor identities.
  • Experience evaluating and integrating big data techniques, such as hashing and encryption, to limit the exposure of sensitive information, while enhancing connectivity and interfaces.
  • Ability and desire to quickly learn new technologies in a fast-paced, constantly evolving environment and recommend optimal technologies for an evolving platform.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills and interpersonal relations skills.
  • U.S. citizenship or permanent residency.

Desired attributes include:

  • Experience with AWS cloud services, Azure cloud services, Agile software development, and Big Data concepts.
  • Aviation and/or safety background/experience.
  • Knowledge of the current air traffic management system.

The Position

ATAC has an opening for a junior to mid-level Aviation Analyst.  This is a full-time position and will be located at ATAC Headquarters in Santa Clara, California. The ideal candidate will have an interest in aviation and a solid technical background.  Training for this position will be provided.  The successful candidate will participate in the FAA’s Performance Data Analysis and Reporting System (PDARS), a system for the automatic collection, analysis and reporting of aviation performance measurements.

 Responsibilities will include:

  • Quantitative and qualitative analysis of air traffic data
  • Application of visualization software to understand air traffic operations
  • Use of simulation software to assist clients with analysis of airport/airspace operations
  • Development and deployment of aviation performance reports
  • Aviation data verification and validation
  • Calibration and troubleshooting of data processing algorithms
  • Presentation and briefing development
  • Onsite support of FAA users/customers.

Qualifications

The Position

ATAC has an opening for a Director of Military Programs. This is a full-time position that can be located anywhere in the continental U.S. The successful candidate will be a self-motivated member of ATAC’s business development team and will also provide high-level management of ATAC’s military aviation operations programs for Department of Defense clients. Functioning within a small business, the ATAC Military Programs Director will be a key leader within the senior management team.

 Responsibilities will include:

  • Develop ATAC’s military airspace operations, airfield operations, air traffic control, and capacity analysis business through broad-reaching client interaction, partnerships, and thorough knowledge and creative application of ATAC products and services.
  • Seek and maintain detailed knowledge of military, other Federal Government, and private sector client and potential client operations support and analysis needs.
  • Direct ATAC’s military operations analysis programs including the NASMOD modeling and simulation system.
  • Support company-wide proposal writing.
  • Represent ATAC in relevant government and industry meetings.
