NASA Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) Phase 1 Projects

Share

April 17, 2017 – ATAC is proud to announce the win of two NASA Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) projects. In one project, ATAC will be developing an innovative automation tool to improve temporary and permanent runway closure management. The ATAC Movement Area Closure Planner (MACP) will provide airport stakeholder capabilities to improve decision processes and decision outcomes during surface closure events by developing a what-if simulation functionality to explore multiple operational decision choices.

In a second project, ATAC will also develop a machine learning based approach for improving post operations analysis and for potentially making it more autonomous. Current day capabilities for performing post operations analysis of air traffic operations at airports, airlines and air navigation service provider facilities are mostly limited to creating reporting type of analysis results which compare mean values of key performance indicators against the respective expected nominal levels (e.g., average daily delay).
